The Zeitz Museum, a contemporary art museum located at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, South Africa opened its doors to the general public on the 22nd of September 2017. The museum which has about 100 galleries spread over nine floors, has various displays of 21st-century artworks from around Africa and the diaspora.

Considered as one of the leading contemporary art museum’s in Africa, the Zeitz collection currently includes works from prominent artists as Marlene Dumas, Kehinde Wiley, Chris Ofili, Kudzanai Chiurai,  Glenn Ligon,  Wangechi Mutu, and Julie Mehretu.

Mark Coetzee,  Zeitz’s executive director and chief curator, explains that the museum aims to provide a platform for Africans to tell their own story and participate in the telling of that story. He says though the museum is “geographically situated in Cape Town but has a dialogue with all 54 African states”.
